Due to the high toughness of the PVB interlayer, conventional mechanical cutting of laminated glass often results in edge chipping or residual interlayer material, which has long been a technical challenge in the industry. High-end cutting machines from leading brands address this issue by integrating infrared heating tubes. Through directional radiant heating, these systems enable simultaneous softening of the PVB interlayer and glass cutting, effectively overcoming the technical bottleneck and establishing themselves as a core component in laminated glass deep-processing equipment.
Working Principle: After the glass is scored and separated, the infrared heating tube rapidly radiates heat onto the cutting gap. Fast medium-wave infrared rays (wavelength range 1.4–2.0 μm) closely match the peak absorption spectrum of the PVB interlayer, achieving an absorption rate of over 90% in the interlayer, while the glass itself absorbs minimal energy. This enables precise heating of the interlayer without heating the glass. Once the interlayer is rapidly softened, the glass layers can be easily separated.
